What You Should Do Before and After Chiropractic Adjustment

How to make the most of your chiropractic care and results

A common question asked by our practice members is how to get the most out of their treatment. We know that our lifestyle habits impact our body’s healing and are crucial to recovery and long-term wellness.

This is why at Wilder Living Chiropractic our chiropractors promote comprehensive care that extends beyond your appointment time. Alongside chiropractic adjustments, your chiropractor may also utilise additional modalities such as soft tissue techniques, dry needling and exercise prescription for pain relief, mobility and ultimately improved function of your nervous system.

What you do in and out of the practice is also important. Our chiropractors encourage holistic habits pre and post adjustments that are going to help sustain the benefits of care and improve your lifestyle. Being intentional with these habits will serve you and your body for short term relief as well as your health in the long run. Let’s dive right in.

1. Relax Your Mind and Body

This can be easier said than done. After a busy day of work or looking after the kids, sometimes it’s difficult to unwind. We encourage you to come five minutes early and enjoy reading a book in our beautiful reception space, pat Oakley the clinic golden retriever (he’ll be happy about this too) or talk to our friendly chiropractic assistants about your weekend plans. Take time to deep breathe and clear your mind so your body can be ready for the incredible adjustment that you’ll receive by your chiropractor.

2. Engage in Movement

In your week, we encourage you to be moving daily. Being consistent with the exercise plan given by your chiropractor is going to help you progress and get great results.

3. Nourish Your Body

Often we may get slack with getting adequate nutrition, however, this is one of the pillars of health that’s important for overall recovery. Choosing whole foods that decrease inflammation and provide the nutrients your body needs is a great way to be proactive with your wellness.

4. Prioritise Adequate Sleep

Research shows that you are more injury-prone if you do not get a good night’s sleep. When you’re sleeping, this is the time your body heals and recovers. Aiming for a solid 8 hours for adults is a great start but be sure to listen to your body as you may need more. People often find that their sleep may improve with chiropractic care. Prioritising an evening routine may help to relax your body and start to wind down. Simply swapping your phone for a book or having no screen time an hour before bed can encourage better sleep.

1. Hydrate

After your chiropractic adjustment, help yourself to our filtered water in reception. Hydration is essential to feeling your best.

2. Walk Before Getting in the Car

Taking a short walk before you hop straight into your car can allow your adjustment to settle. By moving your joints and muscles, you’ll continue to improve the blood flow for healing.

3. Practice Proper Posture

Chiropractic care aims to improve your posture by aligning your spine and training your joints and muscles to be in a more effective position. Ways to work on your posture after your appointment are to keep up with the exercises your chiropractor has guided you through and think to ‘reset’ your posture throughout the day. take regular breaks to move throughout the day to reduce tension and strain on the body.

4. Avoid Prolonged Sitting

Our bodies are made for different movements, so no wonder they can get cranky when we stay sitting in a chair all day long. Our chiropractors advise avoiding prolonged sitting, especially to reduce the stress on your spine. By taking short breaks to stretch and move you reduce tension and strain and prevent the irritation of back pain or headaches. Remember to check that your workspace is set up ergonomically, and note that having a stand-up desk to alternate your position can be helpful.
